All About The Class... By Nidhi
Hello, my name is Nidhi and I am the classroom journalist. I will be talking about our class and what we do.
Morning Meeting:
"It's time for morning work", our teacher says. We have a packet on our desk to do. After, we form a boy-girl circle and greet each other in different ways. Then, we read our morning message and talk about what is happening today. That is called our "Morning Meeting."
Reading Workshop:
"Reading Workshop!"
Our class screams our cheer! We quietly take a seat on the carpet and begin our mini-lesson. We learned many different reading strategies, like "mark it up", author's purpose, making inferences and visualizing. We then try the strategy with a partner. After, we go off to independently read. Miss. Fischer calls some of us over to have a reading conference. That means we meet individually to talk about what we read. Then, we go to the carpet to announce the star reader of the day and share our reading work!
Writer's Workshop:
In Writer's Workshop, we learn many strategies. First, we come to the carpet to listen to the mini lesson of the day. Then, we go back to our seats to begin our writing. We add details, revise and edit and write another draft. Miss Fischer also meets with us for conferences.
Reading Centers :
We come to the carpet and listen to Miss Fischer talk about the centers we have for the week. For this week we have a spelling center, vocabulary center, an article and a center with Miss Fischer. Then, we work in teams to complete the center work.
Science:
In science we learned about the scientific method, we also had a quiz. We also learned about matter and the three states of matter. In Science, we first go to the the carpet for our mini lesson. Then, we go back to our seats to either do an experiment or a fun activity.
Math:
In math, we first take a problem of the day and glue it in our notebook. Before we begin, we have to highlight key words and numbers. After that, we begin our Every Day Counts calender. We silently go to the carpet and face the calendar. Miss Fischer asks us about the pattern in the calendar and what we notice about the numbers. Then, we turn and talk to a partner and tell her what we think. Miss Fischer then teaches us a math mini-lesson on the carpet using the Promethean Board.
Math Centers:
In Math Centers, we go to different tables to complete our work. We go on the net-books for educational games, we work with Miss Fischer, and we also work on a project with a partner.
